Cisco Media Services Interface (MSI) is a background component from Cisco Systems, Inc. that enables real-time audio and video for Cisco collaboration applications. Typically installed alongside products such as Cisco Jabber, it runs as a service rather than a standalone app. MSI manages device access (microphones, speakers, and cameras), media capture and rendering, codec operations, encryption, and network optimizations to help maintain high-quality calls and meetings across varying conditions.
MSI also provides interfaces the host application uses for call setup, media statistics, and diagnostics. Updates are delivered through the parent Cisco application’s installer, and removing or disabling MSI can impair voice, video, or screen-sharing features.
